THEME and VARIATIONS
I chose Not Alone by Fredy V because of the inclusion of multiple background vocals, guitars, and drums with mic bleeds. This song offered me a chance to learn and challenge my mixing skills because those elements I feel I can use more practice and experience. The song is a great song. I enjoyed the arrangement, instrumentation, and the lyrics.
REFERENCE
Not Alone was downloaded from https://cambridge-mt.com/ms/mtk/. The song is in A major with an approximate BPM of 67 and a runtime of 6:15.
MY MIX- BEFORE
Music starts at 0:07.
The website provided 26 raw tracks and I was tasked to recreate the reference. The most challenging part to recreate was the fullness and warmth of the reference’s ambience and vocals, the snapiness of the kick and snare and lastly the sharpness of the hi-hats. My mix I believe is lighter, less compressed, and more dynamic than the reference; however I wish to learn techniques to create much fuller and warmer mixes in the future.

REMIX- AFTER
Music starts at 0:07.
My remix has the following new elements: drums, a bass guitar for the bridge, and sound effect on the guitar. The drums were created by Apple’s Logic Drummer which I bounced out as MIDI for full control. The bass guitar (Bass Finger by Waves) was added to the bridge using a descending bass line and a borrowed parallel key of C from A minor. The sound effect on the guitar is a sweeping low-pass EQ (FilterFreak by SoundToys).
Drum Stem- Intro of My Remix: The inclusion of drums which change the groove dramatically. I used the reference snare for intro and choruses and the hi-hats for some of the intro, the bridge, and a small portion of the outro. The drum includes normal, half, and double time grooves.
Lo-Fi Stem- Interlude of My Remix: The inclusion of the Lo-Fi Space plug-in by Waves providing a snappier snare and lo-fi effect on the drums creating contract between the verses and chorus. This allowed the guitar to have more presence.
Bass Guitar Stem- Bridge of My Remix: The inclusion of a bass guitar playing a descending bass line and a borrowed parallel key of C from A minor. The bass guitar gave the bridge a vibe and space
